Veterans in the west metro to give a new automobile to a veteran

CHANHASSEN — A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps will receive a fully restored 2015 Honda Odyssey in May.

It all takes place at LaMettry’s Collison, Glass and More at 13600, County Road 62, in Minnetonka at 11 a.m. May 25.

The recipient, Teri Hlavka, worked as an electrician and technician on the Harrier Aircraft while in the Marines, and now, nursing degree in hand, she works with veterans at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center.

Her brother also served in the Marines. She and her sister-in-law made a homecooked Thanksgiving meal for 75-plus Marines who were away from their families on Thanksgiving.

She became Chanhassen Post 580 adjutant in 2013. She participates in the honor guard, has served as children and youth chairman and was featured in the Legion Magazine for her volunteer work.

She is a single mother of four children who has battled forms of abuse along the way to where she is today. She leans on fellow veterans and continues to give back.
