Legion’s Be The One Race Car Wins Pole for the Indianapolis 500

From the National Adjutant, Daniel S. Wheeler;

You may recall part of our decision to invest in INDYCAR marketing was to amplify our message on one of the biggest stages in sports. The Indy 500 is one of the largest sporting events in the world with hundreds of thousands in attendance and approximately 4 million watching on national television. I’m proud to share that The American Legion race car, driven by Alex Palou, will start in the pole position for the 107th Running of the Indianapolis 500!

How appropriate – the Be the One car will lead the field to start the race this Memorial Day weekend.

Alex earned the top spot yesterday with a record qualifying four-lap average of 234.217 miles per hour. Qualifying was live on NBC, and The American Legion received a significant amount of national media coverage. One of the more fitting comments of the broadcast came from Chip Ganassi’s interview after Alex earned the pole. Chip simply said, “That was a victory for every veteran across the United States today.”

We have dominated the month of May at the Speedway. The American Legion car won the Indianapolis Grand Prix a week ago. We “won” qualifying yesterday. Here’s hoping Alex can sweep it all with a win in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. I hope you will tune in Sunday, May 28 on NBC. Coverage starts at 11 a.m. ET. Green flag is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. ET.

Thank you again for your support of this unique marketing platform. The American Legion brand is receiving an immense amount of national exposure. More importantly, we are helping veterans by reaching millions of people with our Be The One message. Priceless!
