USA Water Ski and Wake Sports is happy to announce a Veterans Learn to Ski Clinic in Perham, Minnesota funded by a grant from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Through this grant, the Big Pine Lake Water Ski Team will host an event allowing our US military veterans to learn to waterski. Our focus is for disabled veterans to learn the sport of waterskiing after their injury. I’m hoping you and/or your organization have some contacts to share this invitation with so that we can gather participants. We also would encourage friends and families of a disabled vet to share this information and help encourage participation. Our goal is to serve 10-15 vets, up to a maximum of 20. This event is open only to disabled veterans who are residents of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, and is sanctioned by USA Water Ski & Wake Sports. A package of adaptive equipment from USA Waterski & Wake Sports is available for use at the event. All volunteers who will be helping in the water will be USA Waterski & Wake Sports members and will undergo training in water safety and adaptive waterski training. This one-day event will take place on Monday, August 8th (inclement weather backup date of Wednesday, August 10th) on Big Pine Lake near Perham. The host site will have a flat yard and beach for easy access to the water, and it will be a family-friendly event for loved ones to come join in! There will be yard games set up for kids and adults as well, but children under the age of ten (10) & non-swimmers must be supervised by an adult at all times. Meals and snacks will be available for all participants, families, and volunteers and we have a professional chef who will donating time, creating a menu, and cooking for the event!
