Twins Game.jpg
American Legion Night at Target Field
Overview
Details

We welcome anyone who is part of the American Legion Family: veterans, relatives, supporters, Legion Baseball & Softball players, coaches and their families, and anyone who participates in any American Legion program, such the Riders, Oratorical Contest, Boys and Girls State, Legionville, you name it. We want to have the largest American Legion presence ever at this game.

Be there for all the action. We will have a link for purchasing tickets when the Twins make them available. Commander Linda Dvorak will toss out the first pitch, and a member will raise the U.S. flag.

History

The relationship between The American Legion and Major League Baseball goes back to the 1920s. After the birth of Legion Baseball in 1926, funding for a second season looked bleak and no season was held. Major League Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis stepped in and pledged an annual donation of $50,000, and the program resumed in 1928. Winners of the American Legion World Series attended the MLB World Series. To this day, the winners still attend the World Series, and MLB provides an annual donation to help fund the National American Legion Baseball Tournament of 64 teams from across the country.

Let’s show our support for America’s pastime by attending this game. No other youth baseball program has so many of its members in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Read about them here.
