Outdoor Opportunities

The members of the Minnesota American Legion Family strongly believe in the innate ability of the outdoors to refresh the spirits of veterans, as many veterans spent much of their military careers in the outdoors. We encourage veterans to take part in our outdoor programs.

The John Zgoda Memorial Deer Hunt takes place annually on the first weekend of October at Legionville north of Brainerd. It is organized and operated by the Sons of The American Legion Detachment of Minnesota.

The Disabled Veteran Deer Hunt happens the first full week of October at Camp Ripley. It is organized and operated by Minnesota Veterans Outdoors, which is a collaboration of The American Legion, DAV, VFW, Elks, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Military Order of the Purple Heart and Minnesota V4V.

The Veterans with Disabilities Turkey Hunt is usually the last week of April or first week of May during turkey season.
